The Story of Sustainable Canvas - An artist and entrepreneur.
Recycled Artist Canvas
It’s a sinking feeling knowing our oceans, along with the animals who inhabit them, are being overcome by an excessive amount of plastic. This growing concern has driven many to seek innovative solutions, but few have combined creativity with environmental consciousness as effectively as Alanah Jarvis. As a former scuba diving instructor who has explored the world’s oceans, Alanah witnessed firsthand the escalating plastic pollution tarnishing once-pristine aquatic ecosystems. Motivated by these experiences, she founded Sustainable Canvas, merging her passions for creativity and marine conservation into a single, groundbreaking venture.
Sustainable Canvas was established with two ambitious goals: to provide Australian artists with a canvas of the utmost quality and to repurpose plastic waste that would otherwise pollute our oceans and harm marine life. After years of research and design refinement, Alanah engineered a product that not only meets the demanding standards of professional artists but also upholds environmental principles. The result is Australia's first canvas crafted from recycled plastic.
Sustainable + Quality
From the Tiwi Islands to Tasmania, artists across Australia have embraced Sustainable Canvas. This innovative art canvas, made entirely from recycled plastic (PET), is resistant to humidity, temperature changes, and mould, ensuring it's longevity for art. The priming of the canvas is done in Australia, making it the world’s first primed recycled artist canvas available by the roll, setting a new standard in eco-conscious art supplies.
Vision
Alanah's vision goes beyond just providing a high-quality canvas. She aims to inspire a new era of sustainable artistry, where creativity and environmental responsibility intersect harmoniously. By choosing Sustainable Canvas, artists not only create beautiful works of art but also contribute to combating plastic pollution. The plastic used in Sustainable Canvas is estimated to take around 450 years to break down, making each canvas a small but significant step toward protecting our planet.
One artist shared their experience: “Using Sustainable Canvas makes me feel like I’m having a direct positive impact on the world and combating plastic pollution. Knowing that the canvas I paint on is potentially saving animal lives and protecting their habitats adds immense value to my work. Plus, it's a dream to paint on! It's durable, has an ideal weight, and a tooth that suits my painting style. Other artists are enjoying it as well.”
Sustainable Canvas is more than just a product; it's a movement. It's about taking responsibility for our environment and making conscious choices that benefit both the artist and the planet. By transforming discarded plastic into a medium for creativity, Alanah Jarvis has not only provided a solution to a pressing environmental issue but has also opened up new possibilities for artists who care about sustainability.
